Ceramics are great fun. I have been painting for years and find it is a very relaxing activity to do for my spit. Decals are a wonderful way to really dress up any item. They are very easy to use and are cost efficient. When using a decal you will prepare the appropriate size peace to the appropriate size decal. The peace you want the decal on needs to have been glazed and fired. I used to think it could only be a clear glaze but as I have experimented a color under glaze will work too you just have to be aware of the colors and the decal colors so you do not loose your wonderful picture of your decal. After your peace is glazed you are ready to apply the decal, soak the decal in room temperature water, only do this when you are ready to apply the decal. The decals will loosen from its paper backing. Keeping the decal very wet you can slide the decal off onto the ceramic peace. Once there it is time to get a clean soft sponge, arrange your decal in the location you desire it and start very carefully rubbing the decal from the center out to remove the air trapped under the decal and the water. Smooth till the decal looks like it is glued to the ceramic peace let it set 8-10 hours to dry then it is ready for the final firing very low firing on cone 04.
