The purpose of this guide is not to discourage people from purchasing wireless electronic devices on the internet , but to advise of what you could be faced with by dealing with some sellers. The photos below are of a Nokia 6290 cell phone that was purchased from a seller located in Estonia. E Bay guide policies do not permit me to disclose the sellers ID in this guide but by simply checking the feedback I've recently left for others should tell you everything you want to know. The phone was listed as a Un Used Shop Sample or demo model with a disfunctional main display. I thought what the heck , place a bid and see what happens and we could repair the phone's main display in our shop and sellit for a modest profit. When the phone arrived it was eveidently a used phone that had suffered quite a bit of abuse as the pics below will show.
Main display badly scratched
Huge scratch on battery door cover
Blemishes and deep scratches along both sides of the housing. At the top where you can see seperation between the hinge cover and volume rocker indicated the phone was dropped if not once , several times.
And last and funniest part , the battery LOL. After replacing the main screen and flex cable the phone still would not function. There are indications that this phone was damaged by being exposed to heavy moisture as the condition of the battery suggests. In the first e mail the seller strongly stuck to his statement that this phone was a un used shop demo model and said he didn't like being called a liar. In the second e mail he said it wasn't his and he was selling it for a friend who said it was a un used demo and in the third e mail the story just got better and better. Finally I ended communication with him by saying , maybe you better stop talking while your ahead because your just digging yourself into a deeper hole. Remember the old saying Caveat Emptor ( let the buyer beware )
