Dazzleaire yarn, by Caron, is a baby-soft, acrylic/nylon blend, with a sparkle that puts it in a class by itself. Caron quit manufacturing this beautiful, and highly sought after, yarn in 2004. Soon after it was discontinued a friend of mine asked me to find her some, and I started searching the web and craft stores. I found several large lots, and after she took what she wanted, I decided to start selling it. I've been buying it when and where I can find it ever since, although it is getting harder and harder to find. From what I have observed, Caron first made it in a blend of 50% Creslan/50% Nylon, 4 ply, 4 oz. skeins. At some point they changed it to 3 oz. skeins, with a blend of 60% Creslan (or Acrylic)/40% Nylon. The latter is much softer than the 50/50 blend, although they both have the Dazzleaire sparkle. Towards the end, they changed it again, making the blend 80% Acrylic/20% Nylon. This last blend was also 3 oz. skeins in the solid colors, but the ombres or variegated colors were only 2.5 oz. The 60/40 blend has the most variety of colors; both solids and ombres. I have personally seen dozens of colors, but every once in a while, I find a new one. It can also be found in 3 ply yarn, which comes in 1 1/2 oz.-2 oz. skeins. Other companies have tried to copy this yarn; Glimmerfluff by Columbia Minerva comes the closest in softness and sparkle, however, Dazzleaire remains the first choice among buyers. I emailed Caron one time and asked them why they quit making it, and was told it didn't sell well. I suspect my customers would strongly disagree with that point of view.
