Carnuaba wax is praised by people who have a lot of tiime on their hands and detailers who are still living in the past.
I have used all types of wax and polish on various vehicles and I can say without hesitation that Carnuaba wax is the last thing in the world I would put on a new car.
For one it is tiresome to apply and difficult to remove.
The amount of time it lasts does not justify the amount of time it takes to apply.
If you do not use a power buffer and only do a section at a time you will end up with swirl marks that will ruin the finish of your car. Once the carnuaba hardens on the buffing pad it has to be replaced.
I had a professional detailer apply Meguires carnuaba wax on my car, I had to leave it at the shop for about 3 hrs. When I got it back it looked great but within a week it was showing wear. In two weeks it was obvious that the shine had faded.
I had the car hand washed and told them not to wax it because I wanted to see if the original shine was still evident beneath the wax, It wasn't. There were swirl marks in the finish from front to back. The detailer said a rewaxing would fix the problem. I opted not to use Meguires and tried Mothers carnuaba wax. the result was the same. All that rubbing and buffing left swirl marks and an uneven shine.
Incidently I should note my car is midnight blue. There was wax in the cracks and crevices of the body that had to be removed with a tooth brush and hot water.
From a distance my car looks ok but close up is another story. The shine the factory finish had left on the car was gone. The wax just could not compare.
I decided to try a synthetic polish. I found one that was a pure liquid you spray on the the paint. The results were as different as night and day. The shine was amazing and it was so easy to apply. It took only 15 minutes to do the whole car.
I thought my problem had been solved when it still was looking great after a week.
Unfortunatly after about 3 weeks the polish wore off and the wax damaged paint was visible again.
I was able to re apply the synthetic polish and got the same great shine as the first time I applied it.
I wish I had started with the synthetic, then my paint would have keep its factory finish. My advice is not to listen to these guys singing in the carnuaba chorus. They know they cannot make money appling a product that takes only a few minutes, so they claim Wax is the only way to go. Believe me IT IS NOT THE BEST THING TO PUT ON A NEW CAR.
Since then i have tried other synthetics and found them all to be easier to apply and producing a much better shine than any wax or paste polish on the market.
Waxing a new car is a headache waiting to happen.
