After purchasing that doily you just won on eBay you may find the need to want to wash it just after it arrives, well you may want to do so with the most care as possible! I once crocheted a table cloth for my sister who felt this same need and after she was done drying it in the dryer she had inherited a coaster! You will find it best to hand wash doilies or at least use the delicate cycle if you must throw it in the washing machine. NEVER dry any doily in the dryer not only will it shrink but may tear and damage the doily. You should always shape the doily (usually refered to as blocking) and let it air dry, yes I know it takes longer but in turn you will still have a doily instead of a coaster!
