Caring for Your Lingerie

Laundry is not always a favorite household chore, but a little extra time and care can save you time and money in the long run.  I will give you a brief guide for caring for your lingerie items.

Wash Your Items Immediately After Wearing

No one likes to do laundry every day, but because lingerie is very close to the body, it is important to wash them as soon as possible in order to maintain the fabric.  The fibers of the fabrics will last longer and your items will keep their shape, color and elasticity if you care for them as soon as possible.

Prep Your Garments for Washing

Make sure that you fasten the hooks on the bras so that they don't get snagged or tangled in the wash.. Use mesh-bags or a pillow case and put the intimates in the bag/pillowcase when you wash them. This is very good when washing delicate and small items in the washer. Be sure to remove anything from the items that are not washable, such as buttons or clips.

Use a Mild Soap or Detergent

There are many products made especially for lingerie.  Woolite is one example. This is a very mild detergent and does not have any additives.   It's even possible to use dishwashing liquid that is made to be gentle on the hands, such as Ivory.  The gentle detergents are better for the delicate fabrics that lingerie is made out of.

Use Lukewarm Water

Do not use hot water to wash your lingerie. It is better to use lukewarm water (for both handwashing or machine wash gentle cycle)

Drying Your Items

It is best to air dry your items. The dryer is just too harsh and rough on delicate lingerie items.  It is best to hang them on a rack or lay them flat on a towel.  If you need to dry them faster, try putting them on the top of the dryer while you are drying other clothing!

By following these tips, you will be able to keep your pretty and delicate lingerie items looking pretty and like new for a long time.
