Smooth Leather Care
Smooth Leather (Full-Grain and Corrected-Grain Leather)
Smooth Leather is made from the outer side of the skin.
Full-Grain Leather indicates that only the hair has been removed from the skin of the animal hide. The grain remains in itis natural state.
Corrected-Grain Leather indicates that the hair has been removed from the skin, the natural grain has been sanded, and an artificial grain has been applied.
The look of this leather type may be grained, structured, smooth, mat, or shiny.
Care:
1. Clean your shoes with leather cleaner or leather shampoo, and use a good quality brush to remove loose surface dirt. If your shoes are wet after cleaning, let them air-dry before you begin the care and conditioning stage. DO NOT store wet leather shoes near heat source, as they may shrink. If your Smooth Leather shoes are not too dirty, it is recommended that you clean them dry. A shoe/boot brush will remove dirt and grime from Smooth Leather shoes, and a cotton shoe shine cloth will help to buff the shoes to a sparkling glimmer. Also, there are some leather cleaners and conditioners that come with a sponge applicator, which makes cleaning leather extremely easy.
2. Care and Conditioning is very important to nourish leather, to keep it soft and supple, and to provide a long-lasting shine. A good shoe shine cloth is not only great for buffing your shoes, it also works wonders for the gentle application of shoe creams and conditioners. When applying shoe polish, a wool dauber works well if you have shoe polish in a tin. If you have a brand new pair of leather shoes, it is recommended to buy a neutral shoe polish, even if your shoes are black or brown in color, to give them an extra shine.
3. Water-/Weatherproofing is not necassary for Smooth Leather shoes, unless you wear your shoes outside a lot. If you do wear this leather type outside, it is recommended to buy a specially formulated water-/weatherproofing product specifically designed for Smooth Leather. The best and least-complicated way to water-/weatherproof your shoes is to buy a specially designed spray. This will save you time and money.
