These are some helpful hints on taking care of your car magnets;
1. Make sure that the paint is perfectly clean, waxed, and dry where you are intending the car magnet to be placed. Check the back of the magnetic decal to make sure it's clear of debris or moisture.
*This step is crucial because with any debris or moisture in between your car and the magnet, it could result in damage to your vehicle or your magnet may fall off while driving.*
2. When placing the magnet onto the vehicle let one edge of the sign contact the vehicle in the desired postion. Let the magnetic power do the work as it pulls the sign into place from the edge where you started to the opposite edge. If the sign is not exactly where you want it, peel it off, reposition the starting edge and repeat steps. Make sure that the entire surface of the sign/decal sits smoothly against the vehicle with no air pockets. During the winter the temperature of the sign should be about 50 degrees fahrenheit during installation, but the temperature of the actual vehicle does not matter.
3. Care should be taken with wood grain paneling and matallic finished vehicles. Such surfaces should be checked weekly for the first 90 days of use. A generous waxing of both the surface where the sign will be placed and the back of the sign itself will help prevent damage. Do not put signs/decals on freshly painted vehicles. Make certain the paint has cured before applying the decal.
4. Remove the sign weekly, cleaning and wiping dry both the magnetic side and the surface of the vehicle. This keeps moisture from collecting. Remove sign after snowfall and rain, make sure to dry the area of your car and the sign itself.
5. Avoid wrinkling your sign/decal during storage. Laying the decal flat is the best way, but if you have to roll the decal up make sure that the printed side is facing out and isn't stored in anything smaller then a 3" diameter tube.
6. Do not wash your vehicle with signs in place. Vehicles using signs/decals in areas of lawn chemical treatment, salt water spray, road salt, etc. should be maintained as outlined above.
7. Corner rounding prevents dog-eared corners. Custom shapes should utilize rounded contours rather than sharp angles. Having rounded corners also help keep your magnets attached to your car and not falling off during driving.
