Because We Care…How to Care For Your New Gems Direct LLC Sterling Silver Jewelry
Cleaning
Soak your sterling silver jewelry for about 15 minutes in a solution of two cups of warm water and a couple drops of mild dishwashing soap. Then, gently scrub your jewelry using a soft-bristled tooth brush. To remove tarnish, always use a soft and dry lint-free cloth and gently rub the surface of the sterling silver. Never use paper towels, they can scratch the metal. We use and highly recommend Sunshine ® Polishing Cloths. These soft cloths effectively clean and polish your silver jewelry with their special non-scratching micro-abrasives. Remember, don’t rub too hard as it may scratch or damage your silver jewelry.
Storage
It is important that with all Sterling Silver jewelry, it is stored properly to insure that it does not tarnish. It is also recommended that you DO NOT store Sterling Silver in the open air and humidity for extended periods of time as it can cause it to tarnish quickly. Tarnish first appears as a golden hue on your sterling silver then quickly turns to black. This is a normal process that is caused by oxidization and moisture from air and even from sunshine. To keep tarnishing to a minimum it is advised that you store your jewelry pieces when not wearing them. We recommend that you keep your sterling silver jewelry in an air-tight protective bag made such as a plastic zip lock bag made of Mylar or polyethylene. Never use polyvinyl plastic bags. We store and ship our jewelry in tiny zip-lock bags that are perfect for this. If stored properly, Sterling Silver jewelry can be worn often and with minimal cleaning required and therefore making it very easy to care for and fabulous to wear. Each piece of jewelry should also have its own separate compartment in your jewelry box. Some harder gemstones will scratch other softer stones and metals. Make sure that jewelry is always clean and dry before storing. Silk or cotton jewelry pouches are a good way to avoid scuffs or scratches.
Wear
Avoid wearing jewelry while applying makeup or cleaning. Variant chemicals may cause damage to some gemstones. Please noe that excessive moisture may cause your sterling silver to tarnish quickly. Also be sure to keep sterling silver seperate from other pieces of jewelry as it may scratch or scuff the sterling silver or the gems.
Protection
All jewelry sold by Gems Direct LLC has a lifetime expectancy, depending on its wear and maintenance. If you do your part to properly care for your jewelry, it will continue to sparkle and shine for generations.
