Capture the Flag for Fitness and Fun
Capture the Flag is another great schoolyard game that provides a great cardiovascular workout.
Capture the Flag is played with two flags hidden on two separate sides of a playing field. You can play it on a soccer field, in the woods, or even in your backyard. Each side has a jail set up for captured players. The goal of the game is to capture the opposing teams flag and bring it back to your base without being captured yourself. If captured you must remain in jail until a team member of yours releases you.
Capture the Flag is incredibly fun and can be played by as little as 6 people depending on the size of the playing field. The game is a lot more fun with tons of people and a huge playing field with tons of obstacles.
To maximize the fitness value of Capture the Flag you can set rules that captured players must complete 10 pushups, situps, and squats before being set free, or that captured players must do jumping jacks until set free. These types of stipulation will really help motivate players to play as hard as they can, as being caught sucks.
Fitness doesn’t have to be boring, and games from gym class offer some of the best physical workouts ever, and you don’t need very much equipment to do them.
