I have a Canon MP500 printer. I used to buy original ink cartridges  PGI-5BK, CLI-8BK, CLI-8C, CLI-8M, CLI-8Y   but these where so expensive. Between $50 to $65 to buy. It is a lot cheaper to print my pictures at Walmart compared to printing it with my original ink cartridges in my MP500 printer. Now, I buy the aftermarket/replacement ink cartridges here at Ebay which is $15 that is including shipping.  $15 for all 5 new ink cartridges. It works great. You just need to follow instructions included with it. These Replacement/aftermarket  PGI-5BK, CLI-8BK, CLI-8C, CLI-8M, CLI-8Y ink cartridges are not refills, these are new cartridges with ink but without the electronic chip at the bottom of the cartridge. You have to get the chip from your original empty Canon ink cartridge. Just use a sharp blade and cut off the 2 small round plastic protruding above the chip. This plastic is the one holding the chip to the cartridge.  It should be easy to pry/lift the chip when the plastic is removed. Be careful not to hurt yourself. MAKE SURE to use same electronic chip for the same color cartridge. That chip is for that color only, cannot be interchanged. I interchanged it once and it says I have two magenta ink cartridge. Now put a small double sided tape under the chip that you removed. (Usually comes inside the box of these aftermarket inks). Make sure the tape does not cover the 2 holes on the chip. Stick it to the replacemnet cartridge making sure the two holes goes to the two plastic guide. The double sided tape is enough to stick it. Now you are ready to use the replacement cartridge.

Read the instructions included with the replacement cartridges. Then, follow the instructions in the screen of your computer when you are printing ( the printer would not continue because it says you run out of ink). The instructions tells you how to overpass this. That is it.  JUST MAKE SURE to check your ink cartridge once in a while to see if it is running empty. The computer nor the printer will not tell you anymore if your ink  is running empty. If the ink runs out without your knowledge, the printer head ( part where you put your ink cartridges) might be damaged and you will have to buy a new one.

Now I print my pictures again in my MP500 printer. If you want to buy cheap 4" x 6" photo paper, COSTCO sell it cheap.

My printer prints beautifully using these replacement cheap ink cartridges.
