Canon CD Print Feature Firmware How to.
To print CD’s with a Canon capable model you must first turn this feature on within the printer’s firmware. The following is a basic overview of how that is done.
If you are looking for model specific instructions for the CD print feature please visit Cd Tray Store see “Useful information” / "Instructions".
The Basics: What are firmware changes? How do I do it?
Firmware is the similar to the software that runs your PC but in this case it runs your printer. When you need to make changes to the software on your PC you simply open a program and view an on screen menu which guides you through making whatever changes you want. Unlike your PC changing the firmware settings in your Canon printer is not quite that simple. The reason is you do not make firmware changes buy using your PC. There is no on screen menu to view or guide you. The printer firmware settings are changed by pressing specific buttons on the printer in a specific sequence. Note that some of the Canon models do have an LCD screen where you can actually view what’s going on but most do not have this LCD. In other cases where the printer does have an LCD the changes may not appear.
To change the firmware settings on your printer and turn on the CD print feature you will be pressing buttons. Here is a simple analogy:
Starting your car is similar to making changes to your PCs software. You simply look for the ignition / insert the key / and turn. Vroom……the motor starts.
Let say your car has no ignition. The manufacturer states that if you want to start the motor you need to do the following:
First place your right hand on the rear view mirror / while holding the rear view mirror honk your horn twice / remove your left hand from the horn and while still holding the rear view mirror / open and close your glove box four times. Next lock and unlock the passenger side door twice and finally tap the brake once / release you hand from the rear view mirror. If the motor starts you’ve completed the procedure correctly. If it does not start you need to repeat all these steps again until it does.
Sounds frustrating, well it can be if you car didn’t start the first time or in this case your printer still won’t print CD’s. Basically you need to be prepared for a little frustration if your printer settings do not take on the fist try. Rest assured that eventually you will complete these setting correctly and your failed attempts in no way will harm your printer.
CAUTION: If you’re on medication that states “Do not operate machinery” you may want to enlist the help of a family member. It also helps to have some mood music playing in the background along with consuming one or two adult beverages. Note that if you consume more than one or two adult beverages please STOP. I have found this only puts you into the “Do not operate machinery” mode.
Hopefully this guide has given you some idea of what skills are required for setting up your Canon printer. If you read this guide first and did not see my Guide to Canon CD Tray or Roller Assembly by all means please read that also before making a decision to purchase a Canon CD Tray.
