I'm probobly gonna take a lot of heat writing this, or maybe Ebay wont even print it.I don't know.
But recent changes in Ebay and PAy PAl policy has made me relize I can no longer afford to sell may hobby stuff on Ebay.
Case in point. I offered a Mc Coy 35 model airplane engine on Ebay for $40 . A guy bought it. Keep in mind the engine is 53 years old. It's from 1957,made in Los Angeles,California and the place has been closed for years. A USA motor when everything is built in Japan now.
When it arrived, he said it didnt look like the picture. Well, the picture was old and the motor wasnt as shiny as it once was.
He demanded to have the engine that was in the picture. He made a Ebay dispute saying it wasnt the same engine. IT was the same engine.
I had plenty more engines of this type so I found him another one that was shinier. I also put in 5 propellors, 5 extra glow heads, and an envelope with his cash money back including his shipping. $45.
He now has two engines and all the extra stuff I just wrote about. PAy PAl rules in his behalf and gives him another $44.30, even tho I sent them proof of all the stuff I sent him and a postal confirmation signature reciept. Didnt matter. Customer is always right. The guy at least told PAy PAl that he recieved a refund from me and they reversed the charges and closed the dipute, only after the customer said to.
Next, I sold a Texaco tanker to a guy for $100. Agian, this model is from 1959. Made in America, very rare, you only could get them if you bought so much gallons of gas and paid 3.99 at a Texaco gas station in 1959.
I had the oriiginal box. The box was all buggerfied. It was toast. I stated that in the ad. But it was the original box. I sent it to him. Again, he says it wasnt the same model. IT was the same model. He said the book wasnt in there. I never advertised the book. He said the model was dirty. The model was a bit dusty, nothing that a toothbrush and some mild warm water couldnt take care of. The model had D batteries installed and ran. All the masts were there and in good condition when it was shipped.
He wanted his money back. PAy PAl sent him his money back. This time I got the ship back to me, although 3 of the eight the masts were broken, they were lying in the bottm of the package. Yes, the damn deck was dusty. He couldve cleaned it in 5 minutes with some warm water.
Ebay charged me insertion fees and photo fees for selling. Ebay charged me final value fee for selling. PAy PAl charged me fees for the buyer paying with pay pal. Is this fair to you? I lost money and time again. My model is in a lot worse conditon now. These models are old and there arent any more being made ... I give up..
