Unity candles are an extremely popular gift for weddings and secular celebrations. Unity candles are basically wedding candle sets with a pillar and two matching tapers. The bride and groom each use a taper to light the pillar.

Typically, the pillar candle at the center of the unity candle can be of any shape and size. The pillar can stand alone with the tapers each in separate candle holders, or all three can be placed in one candle holder.

Unity candles can be customized with personal messages and the couple's names and date of the union. From extremely ornate to plain and simple, unity candles are decorated with motifs and symbols of love - doves, hearts, rings and flowers in a variety of mediums including wax, appliqués and etchings into the candle itself.

When looking for unity candles, you'll also find wedding favours - small votive, jar or gel candles that the couple can give their guests and attendants in commemoration of the special day. These candles can be labeled with the couple's name and date and a message, such as "Thank you for sharing our special day with us". Many people will enjoy these commemorative gifts for years without ever lighting them.

Any candle or candle gift set can make a lovely gift for weddings and anniversaries. Gift sets that include a unity candle or set along with some champagne, glasses and fruit can add an extra touch to the honeymoon suite.
