As a Canadian seller of the TMX Elmo, I have been asked numerous times if my Elmo's are English or French, so I decided to write this guide to help clarify.

There are 2 version of the TMX Elmo available in Canada, the Multilingual and the French version, here is the way to tell which is which.

The 2 versions look very similair.  Both boxes have both English and French writing on them (it's the law in Canada), however, inside 1 could be an English speaking Elmo and the other a French speaking Elmo.

The English speaking Elmo is exactly the same as the Elmo available at USA retailers, the only difference is that the packaging has box English & French descriptions.

If you have hold of the box, the quickest way to tell is to look along the bottom edge of the front of the box, just to the right of the blue rayovac battery logo it will say either 'This is an English speaking toy' or 'This is a French speaking toy'.

Another way to tell is that with the English Elmo, the writing is in English first and then French.  this is reversed on the French speaking Elmo's.  As an example on the right hand side of the flap, the English Elmo will have 'Don't lift' and then underneath 'Ne pas soulever' whereas the French Elmo will have 'Ne pas soulever' and then underneath 'Don't Lift',

If you cannot tell from the picture or the auction description then ask before buying.  The French only version was only available in Quebec, however, it was available online from a couple of retailers, so just because the seller is not in Quebec does not guarantee that it is an English speaking Elmo.

Also beware when the description says 'Elmo says a few words in French' - this means that they are selling a French Elmo.

Happy Elmo Hunting.
