Hello, my name is Lynne M. Ashby and I lived in Gueydan, La. (Duck Capitol of Louisiana) for 21 years and have lived in North Louisiana for the past 31 years. I have been painting cajun scenes in acrylic paints for the past 3 years now. I have painted in the neighborhood of 100 such paintings. Most of my paintings have sold on Ebay and have gone to such places as New York, North Carolina, Louisiana and France.
I pencil sketched when I was younger, pencil was cheap, you know. Under the GI bill (my dad was a 100% disabled WWII Vet) I was able to attend McNeese State College where I enrolled in ART. Being lonesome, straped for money and highly discouraged by the art professor (MS. Ramsey, who said only 1% of the class would make it) I decided to drop out after 1 semester, never to return to college.
Since being an artist was an out-of-reach achievement for me, I put it out of my mind until about three years ago when I learned about Clementine Hunter & Five Cent Jones, who were self-taught artists. Being inspired, I decided to try something. Not really knowing how to go about painting with acrylic I tried bright colors on a black background. My son encouraged me to try doing different colors in the background and so with that little encouragment came the scenes that you see now. Inspiration comes and goes, but it could be in something as simple as seeing a little house in the middle of a rice field.
