as of the the first week of April 2008, the amphitheater has changed naming sponsors.
Citing a desire to focus on its core business, Coors withdrew its sponsorship and has been replaced by Cricket Wireless. Cricket also recently acquired naming rights to a similar venue in Phoenix.
The facility is owned and professionally managed by Live Nation, a Los Angeles CA company registered on the New York Stock Exchange. Live Nation manages several entertainment facilities like this one and is becoming one of the largest promoters in the live music industry. Below is the standard 'map' of the facility. All ticket sellers will make reference to this map. ebay sellers will have larger versions for viewing. ebay restricts image size in Guides.
Additionally, the facility now belongs to the VISA Signature Access Seating program. The below map shows the areas in darker blue where VISA VIP customers can acquire tickets at the last minute. There is a premium for this service. Contact VISA for details. ebay restricts the size of images in Guides.
Chula Vista is approximately 7 miles south of downtown San Diego and 7 miles north of the Mexican border.
The facility is reached from Interstate 805 at the Main Street/Auto Park exit from both the north and south directions. Turn east (inland) and go 2 1/2 miles. The facility will be on your right as you approach and has its own ample, well-lit parking lots. The amphitheater is visible using Google Earth and the GPS coordinates above.
The gates normally open about an hour or so before show time and may open 2 hours early for sold-out performances when large general admission crowds are expected. Tickets for an event are only available at the box office on the day of the event from 10AM to showtime. Advance ticket sales should be made through Ticketmaster, purchased on-line or can be made through other resellers like ebay vendors. The Will Call office and Box Office are located at the same place on the north side beside the main entrance.
No tickets or merchandise of any kind relating to a performing artist may be sold, resold or even given away from as far away as the freeway all the way to the facility. The Chula Vista Police Department enforces this using uniformed and undercover officers.
The facility is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is happy to offer special assistance with reasonable advance notification. The number to call for assistance is 619 671-3513. Signers for the hearing impaired can be made available but requesters need to make contact at least one month in advance. This is to allow notification to the artist and receive any applicable materials related to the performance.
It is unlawful for anyone to use a ticket for disabled seating areas other than a disabled person or their companion unless such areas have been released for general seating. Parking for vehicles with appropriate disabled parking plates are available in Lot B on the west side and in the VIP lot on the east side. Standard parking rates apply. Ask any attendant for directions to these parking areas.
Tailgating is permitted in the parking lot prior to an event as long as everyone remains in their single parking space. Trash containers for normal trash and hot coals are available. There is a city ordinance against open alcoholic beverage containers in the parking lot. This is enforced by uniformed and undercover officers.
There is a wide variety of food and beverage sold inside the facility. It is possible to order a choice of picnic baskets on-line in advance and have it delivered to you. There are numerous restrooms.
Items that are restricted from the facility include:
backpacks
large bags
waist packs
laser pens
fireworks
recording devices
photographic devices
lawn chairs
strollers
food & beverage
glass
cans
plastic bottles
umbrellas
weapons
wallet chains
spiked bracelets
drugs
If you are carrying any of these as you enter, you may return them to your car. However, if you are seen inside with any of these items you may be subject to immediate removal and/or arrest without repayment for admission.
Patrons may bring in a blanket. (Recommended.)
I hope this helps those that are visiting for the first time. This may provide some comfort to parents who are allowing their children to go without them.
I am not affiliated with the City of Chula Vista, Cricket, VISA, Live Nation or any ticket seller.
