This guide will help those who collect Civil War, Mexican War, War of 1812, and Revolutionary War military or uniform buttons.
A very interesting hobby, Civil War or earlier uniform buttons have been appreciating in value at a phenomenal rate......sometimes up to 30% or more a year !!!
With over 3,500. basic military button types known in the U.S. alone, this field of collecting is historically important since we are preserving these artifacts for future generations to enjoy.......we are only "temporary custodians" as are all collectors !
Purchasing rare uniform buttons is easy if you have the inclination and available funds but my advice is to only buy from the knowledgable button dealers if you are going to pay/bid top $$$..........otherwise you won't get the guarantee that an experienced dealer will be able to give you.
With over 20 years experience in this collecting field, you won't get better advice, guarantees, service or products unless you buy from the "buttonman" (do a seller search for buttonman).
I wrote chapter 2 about uniform buttons in the book called "200 YEARS OF AMERICAN MANUFACTURED JEWELRY & ACCESSORIES" by Suzanne Marshall. I am also mentioned as a contributer to three other books related to uniform buttons: 1) MILITARY BUTTONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION by Troiani .... 2) UNIFORM BUTTONS OF THE US by Tice ..... 3) AMERICAN MILITARY BUTTON MAKERS & DEALERS by McGuinn.
