Circuit Bending
the process of audio circuitry repurposing, to fullfill the need for Ambient NOISE
Audio circuitry bending has been around for 100 years or more. The art of NOISE, TOTAL Chaotic performances, and electronic tinkering (audio surgery, circuitbending, circuitboarding, audio whackery) has become a household name with thanks to lee daniel at BENT MONKEY CAGE of California --circa2003, and other noise pioneers.
WHEN IT ALL STARTED
While in Grade School (1964, at the age of 12) bMc's Tech Shop teacher (also his bus driver, and a retired Navy electronic engineer) was experimenting with everything electronic. He had the complete shop full of sutured devices that were all wired together. He had a large amount of radios intermingled with TV's, Fender Amplifiers, synthesizers, oscilloscopes, potentiometer devices, Navy stuff, and homemade synthesizers. He also had electric guitars and Fuzz Boxes. He occassionally taught interested kids about electronic whackery. So, in other words,
CIRCUIT BENDING has been around for a long time.
