Lets face it, if you haven't heard of the maker  and its on Ebay your watch that you just spent good money for is likely CHINESE. The new wave of Ebay scammers are watch dealers and many are now in the US. These unscrupulous dealers claim how great the product is, place a ridiculous retail price, sometimes in the thousands  and use what appears to be, a low BUY IT NOW price for Chinese or Taiwanese watches. Most of these have the same, either cheap self winding, or mechanical movements with very appealing see thru or skeleton type cases. They go under many different names. ,Jaques Lemans, Auguste Galan , Astbury and Company, Romilly Cabot and on and on.  Some of these watches have great looking websites and believable stories they may even steal the name of an old watchmaker and give his history, but check the history carefully and you will find that the watch has nothing to do with the watchmaker or name attached. Some of the makers are impossible to find any information on. The websites all have one thing in common NO PHYSICAL ADDRESS for the Manufacturer. They occasionally boast a  a sales and repair number and address that does not belong to the manufacturer.  Some have only information with a few dealers to contact those dealers are YOU GUESSED IT Ebay sellers just check the list. This is just another Part of the new wave of scams on  Ebay consumers. Items produced for Ebay sales by the CHINESE and TAIWANESE. Everyone is entitled to make a living but I am tired of those that pretend something is great and act like they know nothing about where it came from when they know all well it came from  CHINA or TAIWAN.
If you do the research you can find the Taiwan and Chinese wholesalers that sell these watches. Usually you must buy 5 or more at a time. In Taiwan they sell in the $20-40 range.  Wholesale in the US about double that amount with new American wholesale sites opening and closing regularly.
I have seen the same watch for $20 in Taiwan $55 in the US and then $295 on Ebay as a BUY IT NOW claiming the watch has a list price of $1995. I have seen the same watches with different names on them.
Don't be fooled, do your homework before bidding. Sellers like these sometimes start auctions at $1 and run up the prices by using others to do their bidding for them.  Anyone who wants to add names of watchmakers to the short list here please do so maybe this will rid Ebay of these unscrupulous dealers. Here are a few of the most recent ones offered on Ebay. (see pics)
