I have been selling CB radio microphones on eBay for about 4 years.  Many buyers ask which type of microphone is best:  a power microphone or a noise-canceling microphone.  There is not a definitive answer to this question.  For some buyers the power microphone will be the best choice while for others the noise-canceling microphone will be the best choice.  Let me explain how both microphones function and then the perspective buyer can make an informed decision.

A Power Microphone requires a 9-Volt battery, and amplifies the speaker’s voice.  It does not give the radio more power/watts, but a power microphone will amplify the speaker’s voice to make their voice louder over the air and is especially helpful for a softer spoken person.  It actually has the effect of a person speaking louder into the microphone.  The advantage of a power microphone is that a person could become hoarse from constantly speaking loudly to be heard.  Another advantage is that while a person should keep the microphone close to the mouth while speaking, a power microphone will amplify their voice when they don’t.  This allows the speaker to transmit and be heard with their mouth farther from the microphone giving the speaker more versatility to do other things while talking on the CB radio.  Bear in mind that if background noise is a problem, then you should stay away from a power microphone.  The power microphone is going to amplify your voice and the background noise.  If you are in a newer and quieter running car, then the power microphone is probably your best choice.

A noise-canceling microphone contains a noise-canceling cartridge designed to filter background noise and wind. It is especially useful to truckers, motorcyclist, and other motorist having loud engines or driving with their windows down.  It is also helpful if you are going to be talking on a CB radio while listening to an AM/FM radio.  Most people should talk in a normal tone of voice, but if you are a soft spoken person, then you should keep your mouth closer to the microphone and try to speak louder.  Keep in mind that the person conversing with you has a volume control on their CB radio and can adjust their volume up or down as needed.  If you are a truck driver or motorcyclist, then the noise-canceling microphone is probably your best choice.

You will find both, power and noise-canceling CB radio microphones,  in my eBay store.  The first table in my description tells the buyer about the microphone and gives the specifications.  The second table tells the buyer which CB radios are compatible with the microphone.  I haven't and couldn't list all of the CB radios, but I've tried to include the most popular CB radios that will work with the microphone.
