It is very important to keep your bodhran moist as letting the goatskin get to try may cause the hide to split. I use the Walton's Bodhran Conditioning Cream on my personal bodhrans about every 6 months, depending on how dry the climate has been. To get the most benefit from the bodhran cream, spray some water on the inside of your bodhran until the hide is moist. Rub the bodhran conditioning cream into the hide on the inside of the drum and around the outer edge. The crea will help keep the bodhran moist and in good tone. Now, depending on where you live AZ, NM verses OR, WA, your bodhran will dry out at various rates. When you feel the hide getting tight and your bodhran has a "Tinny sound" to it, spray water on the inside again and it will bring that cream back to life. Rerub the cream back into the hide. When you spray water on the bodhran and don't feel the cream it is time to retreat.
It you hang your bodhran on the wall to enjoy it's beauty between playing it, make sure that you don't hang it in direct sunlight, as this will dry the hide out quickly.
