The Stunning Canada Proof-like sets minted Between 1961-1967 are, beautiful , fairly low mintage and a great investment. In 1961, after several years of the six-coin inline cardboard holder, ( used between 1954-1960 ) the royal canadian mint switched to a pliofilm pouch inserted into a brown kraft envelope . Right away , there was a small problem, it appears that, some of the coins in 1961 were prone to "spotting" or mild corrision. This was especially true of the cent in these sets. Finding a truely red, unspotted , problem-free set is very tough and these sets with the "cameo red" cent are very scarce . The trend on A '61 set is about 40.00, with a "blazing red" ms-65 cent , more like 75.00-100.00 !!!!!!!! if you can find one .A word to the wise , always examine very closely ,ANY 1961 proof-like set , in which the claim of " cameo " is made, very often, this simply isnt the case, as , even if there is the tinist spot or minor discoloration, the coin cannot be a cameo. The mintage on the 1961 is the lowest between '61-67 at 98,373 sets minted. Next, the 1962, the mintage on the '62 was 200,950, while not common, certainly not rare either , the trend on the '62 is 20.00-25.00 . Next the 1963 , trending at 15.00 . The 1964 included the beautiful Charlotte town commemorative silver dollar ( those 1864 meetings in charlottetown, p.e.i. and Quebec city paved the way for Canada's confederation in 1867 ) While the '64 sets are common, thet are beautiful to own, and a great silver investment . 1965 began a new ,more mature portriat of the queen, known as "the tiara portiat" .The 1965 & 1966 proof-like sets are also quite common, but with about 1.1 ounces of silver , there represent a fine silver investment. The trends on these two sets is very often at or near the silver spot price !!! Next, is a set that needs no introduction ..the beautiful 1967 canada centennial proof-like set . 1967 , was a very special year!!! canada turned 100!! and to celebrate, there were many different coin sets offered, some contained a stunningly gorgeous 20 dollar gold coin ,with the other coins of 1967 in a felt box . The 1967 centennial coins each featured an example of canada's beautiful wildlife as follows: the cent featured the rock dove, the five cents ,the rabbit , the dime, a mackeral, the twenty five cents ,a cougar, fifty cents, the howling wolf and the silver dollar the gorgeous goose in flight ( my personal favorite of all canada silver dollars ) 1967 marked the end of regular circulating silver coinage in canada, .In 1968 there were transition silver coins of the dime and quarter ( only .500 fine ) but , overall the switch to nickel coins was made .Well......there you have it, canadas beautiful proof-like sets 1961-1967 , collectable, very reasonably priced , and nice to own thank you _____ DANNY ANABLE " THE CANADA COIN NUT " ______AUGUST , 2006
