There is a ton of used turn-out and bunker gear on Ebay these days, pants, jackets, hoods, you name it, it's out there. Some of it is like new, a little dirty, or really dirty old used gear. All these items share one thing in common... THEY NEED TO BE CLEANED BEFORE THEY ARE WORN ON YOUR BODY!
Old gear has been places you might not want to even think about, yet you put it on your body without a thought. If you bought a used jacket on Ebay wouldn't you wash it first? So why not your bunker and turnout gear?
Most all of it can be washed in a commercial washing machine with the proper soap, which is important. Read the label on the gear and use whatever soap is recommended. If you don't know then do a web search for the info you need. If not done correctly you can compromise the integrity of the gear and cause it to lose it's fire retardency and age it more rapidly.
The gear could have been in any number of hazerdous situations and it should have been cleaned, but was it? Take a day and wash the gear, then let it air dry, it's worth the wait.
