Hi Folks, Here's a few tips on online purchases. Hopefully it helps
It's not just on Ebay. Anyone can buy or sell anything online. (I've seen someone selling a safety pin on ebay) With so many sites to choose from, it's easy to be dazzled by all the "Great Deals" out there. I shop online in an attempt save time and gas...not always the hard earned money. Here's some tips for not getting ripped off or feeling disappointed in purchases. I've gotten shipments in that really put me in a sour mood. It's rare but some of the worst buys come from Power Sellers so don't feel completely reassured by this. However, there are some really great folks out there selling.
1. Definately email the buyer and ask questions! How fast do they get back to you? Are they someone you want to do business with? Check feedback! I can't stress how important it is!
2. Overseas or international purchases are okay, but be sure you understand the currency first.
3. Don't feel rushed to jump on those final minute auctions. I've gotten that same panicky feeling..."I don't want to miss a really good deal and spend any time kicking myself." It pays to really spend some time reading all the information provided by the seller. The less information, the more questions you should ask. Be careful with impulse buys.
4. Check the return policy. Every good seller has an equally good return policy. It may not always be posted, so if you really are interested in an item, again, email the seller. They will be able to tell you what you need to know. Be very hesitant with a NO RETURN policy. Actually, I would move on to something else. Watch out for this especially with DVD's and other electronic devices.
5. Understand the shipping charges. Be sure you check on this with the seller if you don't understand or it's not listed. You will be stuck with the cost. Often, included in the shipping charges is cost of packaging materials, actual postage, delivery confirmation, and other delivery expenses. But don't be fooled by enormous shipping charges on WAY underpriced items. You've probably already seen it out there.
6. Don't use the picture as your sole description. Yes, this can be a great tool. For both the seller and the buyer. Some of the worst items I've ordered looked FABULOUS in the picture, but then once the box arrived...Well we all know that disappointed feeling. )Kind of like getting a bad Christmas present.) Definately ask more questions.
It is difficult to squeeze in time for shopping and with the gas prices we're less likely to head out to the mall if it's not within walking distance. Ebay and other online shopping companies make it easier to get those things were looking for too. Just be careful. I'm sure you worked pretty hard to earn your money! Have fun and see you online! Good Luck!
