 O.k. I'm writing this guide to let you know what to look for in a used R/C engine.

 I lot of guys will tell you to watch out and they are like all worried that the engine you buy is no good if it used. Not so. Nothing could be further from the truth.

 The best way to tell if an engine is good is to run it. If an engine is missing parts, then buy it for parts. You really cant get hurt buying a used engine. Some one will always need the parts. New engines are sold at retail prices. Usually upwards of $100. Used engines are sold for less than half that. If you sold the carb,crank and piston rod assembly separate ,you will usually come out ahead.

If you dont want any used parts around your box or in a drawer, then go ahead and spend a lot of dough on a new engine. But really, I dont see the harm in having some spare parts around. You might have to buy two or three used engines to get what you are looking for. Good power, lots of spare parts, and reliability are my main goals. And of course, doing all that on little money. The best way is to buy a lot of the same type of engine. IF you are running Mc Coy 19, then buy three of them. Veeco? Buy several. They are cheap. Usually 25-35 dollars can get you a nice one. Just make sure you buy the same size, and style. OS MAX and others are Japanese so if you buy these engines buy three or four. Then you have plenty of spare parts. You can buy about 4 used engines for what you spend on one new one. They are fun to work on and easy. I learned how to rebuild these in the fourth grade.
