Shopping for shirts can be a real challenge, especially when thrifting, estate and tag/yard sales is your way of obtaining your merchandise.  My favorite and most profiable thrifting occurs on Sundays here in Connecticut because Sundays are $.99 days at some Goodwill Stores.  Certain colored tags are marked down to $.99 regardless of the item.  I especially look for Ralph Lauren Polo shirts for $.99 - they are a sure sell, even children's sizes  :-)  .

I have learned that there are a few things you really want to check before purchasing second-hand shirts.  The best finds I come across are the new shirts that still have the tags on them.  If the tags state "less than perfect" or "as is", then you really want to thoroughly examine the shirt and find out why this is an "imperfect" item.  If the original seller or manufacturer took the time to inform you in this way, there is definitely something wrong.  Most likely the item will be very difficult to re-sell due to stitching issues, completely uneven fabric, misprints or overprints, wacky colors, odd sizing, and even mislabeled sizing.  Also if the item is new and still has a tag on it, you will want to take the time to look for dirt.  For example, I recently purchased a brand new, name brand shirt with the tags on it and when I went to take a photo of it, I realized there was a huge dirt film the exact shape of the square which it had been folded into for probably years.  The new with tags shirt, then became new but never worn and washed/laundered.  My advice is to use stain remover and soak the item, wash it an the list it as "clean and fresh out of the dryer".  It is my experience that this earned me much more profit.  Next best is the items that are like new and still have drycleaning tags on them.  These are always easy sells, especially if you can get them on a half-price or $.99 thrift day.  I find the items with drycleaning tags on them earn about 50% more because the cost of drycleaning outweighs the cost of the shirts in some re-selling cases.  Last, and certainly not least, are the shirts that are not new and are not perfect or marked "as is".  Please take the time to look under the arms, around the neck and in the front for stains.  Any stains are potential problems unless you choose to take the time to work with the items and make them like new.  Also please look at the ends of the shirt cuffs for wear.  I recently learned that some shirt cuff edges are completely worn off and very hard to discover at first glance.  Next, is the shirt collar.  The shirt collars, around the tops, are sometimes worn off or pilled to the point where you can't re-sell them.  Please take the time to ensure all buttons are in tact and if there are missing buttons, please make sure you can replace them.  Also important is the area under the button down collars where the buttons attach.  You want to ensure the area around the buttons is not ripped or torn.  Also, if drycleaned alot, buttons will be pressed or ironed through the fabric.  The best way to explain my shirt shopping is to say that I look at these items as if they were for my own family - if we would like it, then someone else probably would, too.  Most important to me is that if I do find an imperfection I note it on my description.  Honesty is always the best policy.  You may earn more profit on an accurately noted item with imperfections, than on an almost perfect item with an un-noted problem...I have.....  Best of luck to you with your Ebaying!!!!
