It's a good idea to find out what size bike you are really looking at before you bid. The bike I bought on ebay is a 1969 ladies Schwinn suburban.

The seller said it had 27 inch tires. I thought this would be big enough for me. I am 5'11". It is actually a little small for me.

I bid on several bikes of this type....I settled on this particular one because it looked clean in the pictures supplied for the item. The shipping costs on bikes are around $50. to $125.00.  This is definetly something to consider.  Bikes are large items and if a gorilla happens to be the handler that day  at UPS,you may have a mangled bike..

I won this bike for a bid of $28.00, however the shipping was $75.00....  $103.total price... I did not get any emails or anything from the seller after I won it. After several days I contacted them. They said sorry and they'd ship the bike in a few days. They did not claim this bike was in pristine shape. They just had a brief discription and included the hang tag that came with the bike when it was new. It had belonged to a little girl named Becky and her name was hand written on the tag.

When the bike arrived it came in a used bike box.

The box had many holes. This is how the rear fender looked. The fender was squashed to the wheel. The top of the fender had a baseball size dent.

I took my bike to a local bike shop right away. They said that the fender could not be fixed and had to be removed because the rear wheel was not going to turn. The bike needed new tires and tubes and the front brake was rubbing the wheel. They said the front wheel needed ajustment because it was not true. They charged me $81.00 for the new tires, tubes, adjustment and fender removal.

The fact you will need to fix your vintage bike should be a consideration before you bid. If the item already has new tires that might make it a better buy. I was really excited when they called and said my bike was ready. I anticipated riding this bike. I had one similar to this one when I was 11 years old. The young guys at the bike shop were not impressed with this bike......They think Cannondale and speak "mountain".

This bike is a great ride with the mechanics working very well for and old girl's bike. I put some wax on the frame and it shines....
