For those of you looking for a good used autoclave e-bay is a great place to start. However, the old saying "buyer beware" still sounds true!!!! E-bay offers hundreds of used autoclaves every day. Some of these units are a lot better than others. Before you purchase a headache make sure to do your due diligence. That is ask questions. I dont care about scratches on the cabinets or other small cosmetics. Let's get to the meat and potatoes. 1) what is the condition of the physical chamber 2) what shape are the heaters in and how old are they 3) are any old documents  of previous repairs included with the sale and 4) what exactly is the relevance of any new parts installed (are they masking another problem?)

I present to you exibit (A)

This picture shows an autoclave that is ready for sale. The seller is offering it as working with a 30 day Warranty. Other than that it is Sold As IS. This is an older Tuttnauer Manual autoclave circa 1988-89. It shows the unit running at 39 psi. This is incorrect- at this pressure the corresponding temperature would be 285 degrees. These machines are designed to run @ 273 degrees w/ 30 psi. As pictured above at 39 psi. The pressure safety valve which is rated to open at 40psi is running on the brink of failure. There is always the possibility that the quage is wrong but that should have been taken care of befroe the pictures were posted. As a factory trained Tuttnauer service person I would red flag this unit. I see an 18 year old unit that at a minimum is not calibrated properly. To me it is not worth the savings of $500. Thats right!! Our e-bay store and other are selling a brand new replacement to this unit for only $500 more. This case is a great arguement for buying new. Especially, since you get a full manufacturers warranty, all the trays (correct ones at that) and the piece of mind of having a new reliable autoclave.

We are BaySide Technical Services- we have 9+ years of experience on e-bay and "we know our autoclaves" and can help suggest the right autoclave for your needs.
