Recently there have been a number of  "New" old beetles manufactured in Mexico advertised on E-Bay.  The Beetles are being sold under the guise of Vin #'s from the 1960's and are "New" beetles.  Be aware that the last 3000 vehicles produced in 2004 were produced for Mexico residents only and have been discontinued due to them not being able to pass the pollution controls in Mexico.  These vehicles have been imported (read in smuggled) into the U.S. where they do not pass DOT inspection standards and therefore are not registerable unless you swap the vin #'s with an existing VW but then you take the chance of the vehicle being impounded if an inspection is done.   Before you bid on one, please check with your states requirements.  For further info search on "VW's  produced in Mexico"  on your browser..   Some vehicles are being offered as parts only vehicles which cannot be registered..   Just  a little info..
