On Ebay their are many sellers of shift and e-brake boots, so you have to decide which one to buy from. Make a list of what you want from your new boot. I can be honest with you up front if you want a factory replacement (just like one you had) then you will be lucky to find that on Ebay, if your car is older than 5 years odds are you can't even get one at the dealership since they discontinue older parts so often. 99% of new boots on ebay are custom made or universal boots. Custom made is the way to go these boots are made same size as your factory boot and fit the same.
On Universal boots be careful, they are cheaper but are not same size as your factory boot, this means trouble fitting it on your factory mounting bracket and not a clean factory type fit and look for your interior. Also note the s/h cost universal boot sellers will sometimes make up for a low starting bid or a low buy it now by jacking up the s/h cost.
Consider shipping time by checking a sellers feedback you will quickly see if a seller ships fast or not. One of my gripes when I buy on Ebay is a seller who does not ship your item untill days sometimes a week after you pay thus you wait a long time to get your item.
Shift & e-brake boots are not large items the material cost should be close to same on any boot for any car. If a seller has a few boots at a much higher price than his/her others and is using same material then most likely the price has been jacked up because of lack of competition, simply put no or few others selling that type boot on Ebay. Check sellers other items to compare prices on his/her own items not just against other sellers prices to see how honest the seller is. Example if a seller has most leather shift boots at $19.99 and a few leather shift boots at $29.99 you can bet the $29.99 boot is not being offered a lot on Ebay the seller is taking advantage of this fact with the jacked up price while the $19.99 boots are rather plentiful on Ebay, a simple product search will reveal the answer to this.
As for Quality it is important to use common sense any shift or e-brake boot you buy is going to last a couple years, even thecheap factory boots in my Stealth & 3000GT which fell to pieces so bad lasted 3 years, so if a warranty helps you decide to buy then it better be for more than 2 years are it is'nt any good to you anyway, of course the seller knows that so that is why they offer it knowing well no one will have to return one in that period of time, unless it is a workmanship defect and if you sell good products then you don't have to worry about that, the warranty is just a gimmick to get your business.
Top stitching seems to be a big deal with some sellers they state its more professional and better quality with more of a factory look but what they don't tell you is the stitching when on the outside is the first thing to go bad on any boot, the sunlight dries out the thread it becomes brittle and fades horribly, now the top stitching which is said to enhance your boot is it's detraction as the white stitches become brownish or the red becomes rusty looking and even worse the stitches start coming loose, THUS YOUR BOOT WILL START LOOKING OLD AND FALLING APART MUCH FASTER, a boot which is stitched only on the inside does not have any of this to worry about. You must make a choice is top stitching that important to you or is how long your purchase will look good and last more important. The exception to this rule is if you have a garge/carport and do not have a day job in this case your top stitched boot is safe.
Everyone is looking for a reason YOU should buy their boots, item descriptions are full of reasons why they are the best and others are not, and how you can't find a better boot on Ebay ect...ect..ect. I guess each of these sellers has bought every boot the other sellers have to offer and can honestly say this, but that is hard to believe. I say just use common sense look at the facts, if sellers have good feedback, good prices & fast shipping, you can't lose. If one seller has 4,000 + feedback and says my boots are the best blah.. blah.. blah.. but yet another seller does not knock his competion by claiming to be the best and his feedback is 4,000 + then it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out obviously they both have had success and must have a Quality product, so basically it's really about price and shipping speed, unless you are concerned about buying from someone who will say anything to get your business, in that case the list will be short here on Ebay as most boot sellers do not hesitate to claim they are better than everyone else, get real it's a shifter boot not an art masterpiece, did they raise and feed the animal they got their leather from! LOL!!
