This will be the start of the guide documenting my experience with ebay motors and the advrtisement of you being protected by VPP (Vehicle Protection Program) up to $50,000
1. Researched car on Carfax that was out fo state.
2. Won the bid and paid for car using paypal.
3 Picked up car and car's condition was suspect from the start. This to watch out for:
3.1 Seller introduces other things wrong that he did not disclose in the listing. For example and these are quotes from my seller: "oh thats strane the windshield wipe fluid jets don't work"; "oh I forgot to mention that the ABS lights and fuel light are always on and its probably a fuse". (Here ask yourself if it was a fuse which cost .50 cents each, wouldn't he have changed the fuse?); "oh i don't know why the engine is empty on oil" (Note to me*: If the engine doesn't have any oil where did it go? [This also applies to any other fluid sealed by a gasket and a cover, oh and do not accept as a final answer "oh everyone knows diesel's leak"])
4. Do not pickup vehicle if its raining heavily outside and it's cloduy and car is in the shade in a parking lot. You miss a lot of things. Also move the car to another parking spot (preferably not a blacktop as blacktops hide oil leaks) so you can identify any fluid. If the engine compartment is so dirty that it looks like oil was leaked every where, what kind of maintenance really was done on this vehicle? Seller says they performed routine maintenance but when I replaced the air filter it looked at least 20,000 miles old.
5. Another big red flag is if the car doesn't start. WHat does this tell you? It not only tells you the battery is dead it tells you maybe the alternator is bad and even worse you just potentially caught the seller in a lie. What lie? Well the lie some dishonest sellers use when trying to sell you what you want you want a "reliable daily transportation". See liek myself, when they tell you they drive it everyday you think "well if this person drive it everyday to work then I can". #1 If they had drove it ever day the car would have started the day you picked it. #2 if they do drive it everyday then they run it with no oil, no gas and no battery!
More to come ho how to buy a used car period!
