Buying Your First Skateboard- Skateboard Buying Guide
Many experienced skateboarders tend to build their own skateboards by purchasing the various parts separately. This gives them the opportunity to customize their rides and give them a personal customization. For newer skateboarders, this may be confusing since they don't have any riding experience. After all, there are a number of considerations when purchasing one's first board.
Manufacturers tend to offer two different lines of skateboards whether they are destined for young children or young adults. Although price often plays a factor with any purchase, the amount of money spent on a skateboard may have a direct effect on how safe it is. Going with a recognized manufacturer of complete boards such as Golden Dragon or Angelboy may cost a little more but may also offer the added security a newer skateboarder is looking for.
New riders tend to focus much of their attention on the board's artwork. As important as the artwork may be to some, the wheel construction, bearings, and quality of the deck are more important in terms of what the board can do. For example, if speed is a priority, then the wheel bearings should be chosen carefully. The lower the ABEC rating (between one and nine), the less friction on the wheels and--theoretically--the faster it may go.
At eBay, skateboarding enthusiasts can find a wide range of complete skateboards and skateboard parts. From new boards to vintage ones, eBay's listings are updated continuously and offer new items almost every day. For those looking for a higher quality first board but don't wish to pay full retail price, eBay offers a viable alternative where boarders can find deals unavailable anywhere else.
