Some tips on buying socks -fabric selection
The best socks have more terrycloth loops and are more dense -just turn them inside out when selecting. Newer two layer socks with a light liner, and heavier outer sock are good for blister prevention.
- Synthetic socks dry more quickly.
- Synthetics are best for prevention blisters, last longer, though higher initial cost.
- For workouts and games; synthetics like polypropylene, teflon, and [cool max] are preferred.
- Look for toe seams that don't rub.
- Some people buy shoes too small, this leads to foot problems. Allow finger width between toe and top, so shoe doesn't bind. Sometime synthetics socks require bigger shoes.
- Avoid cotton socks --unless you just walk around, as cotton allows blisters. Cotton tend to flatten.
- Try on new shoes with a thick pair of socks.
- If doing a marathon, bring a change of socks. Put lots of vasoline or A& D ointment on to lubricate.
Wilson brand / logo used to be associated with top quality socks.
Caveat Emptor..Wilson sold their logo. Wilson does not guarantee the products bearing the Wilson logo.
These are all Wilson packaging..with a W Wilson logo.
Several Ebay sellers.advertise Wilson brand socks: actual picture.
Look a lot like the authentic Wilson, right?
Well this is what i got:
Funny I did not know Distinctly Basics sold at Family Dollar store was a Wilson brand. They ARE!
The seller said these are Wilson brand and are seconds just not noted in listing..and should have been represented as such in the listing. I only opened a few pair..to find Hole in toe, tar stains, rust stains, dirt in bags, hole in sock, plus bad runs, discolorations.
So are these 45 pairs a cheap fake or just a cheap Wilson second? They are Wilson!!!! Socks being sold on EBAY as Wilson are poor quality. That you can take to the bank. Watch the shipping too.

Recent Wilson sock history...The Wilson brand name was sold to Auburn Mills. Then..Auburn Mills was sold to an international firm..And then they closed the plant(s). Are these Wilson? Seem to have the W Logo...Not Wilson brand packaging. Very confusing.
Wilson? Does it matter? Better ASK if the socks are clean, new, first quality & free from runs, defects, tar, and holes. Ask waht the retail price on the package says. Wilson new run $1 a pair at FamilyDollar Store. Also make sure you know shipping before you bid! We recommend turn on preferences so shipping cost shows.
I'm sure someone will tell me to .... put a sock in it!
I pulled this off the internet..January 2006 (reworded)..
I bought a dozen pair of Athletic socks made by Wilson Sporting Goods and sold at Wal-mart. They are so bad every time I take them off, my feet are full of black lint. I have contacted Wilson and they advised me they contract the socks out from Auburn Hosiery/and have a licensing agreement with Auburn hosiery and they are the ones to guarantee the product.
BUYER BEWARE
Some products are warranted by the brand name on the product and some are not. The licensing agreement gives the company that is allowing to use their logo to be used carte blanche freedom from any liability, yet they still get to enjoy the profits, but you as a consumer can do nothing to hurt them financially. What a clever scam for Wilson.
Gurarantee
Both the Family dollar socks and the Wilson ones at Wal-mart made at Auburn Kentucky offer a free replacement. You must launder the socks and return. Well I'm not sure that is worth it.
George brand offers a coolmax version for $4 a pair. Will let you know.
What happened to us? Well we did not follow our own guidelines -always buy from seller with 99 rating or better. But we did pay with Paypal and credit card. We made an offer to settle for like fifteen or twenty cents a pair plus shipping. The seller took it. Rather than exchanging negative feedback, buyers and sellers can make a price adjustment, avoid return shipping and both are better off. I know a lot more about socks now, and I'm not talking the White House kitten. Meow.
