After almost three years of buying silver coins on ebay, here are a few comments. I find that reference manuals on the specific countries are invaluable in establishing the cut off dates on when .800 silver, for instance, would be replaced by nickle in the Canadian Dollar. The Mexican Peso up to 1945 was .720 silver, but the precious metal content was rapidly diminished in the peso after that. A good Krause Catalogue can tell you exactly what you are buying...It is also a good idea to purchase a scale...that way you can independently verify that that "Art Panda" you bought is at least silver at 31.1g to the oz....Just because 1oz Ag. is stamped on a coin , does not make it so.....since 2005 a lot of "Pandas" have been flooding the market that are not silver...Counterfeit pandas do not have the 10 Yuan value stamped on them, a dead giveaway....Certain sellers are very reputable who do not gouge on shipping...repeat business is usually in order...Sometimes over 100+ transactions....Hope these observations are of some help.
More updates on this guide....The 'Voyager Dollar" in Canada was issued in Nickle in the years after 1967. Thus the coin is smaller in diameter in a 68 than a 67...nickle being harder than silver......Another update on sellers....over a hundred successful transactions does not guarantee that your next transaction will be successful...so it's best to not become complacent about any one particular seller...conditions change....so sometimes the relationship between buyer and seller HAS run it's course....Also if you take the time to read this guide please take he time to vote...Thanks....
