Hasbro started producing their line of 3 3/4" GI Joes in 1982. This line was produced until 1994. Then Hasbro began production again in 1997 which continues to date. This line of GI Joes are the ones most frequently listed and sold on ebay. These GI Joes command the highest prices when they are sold in their still originally sealed packages or "on cards". The most wide spread designation for this on ebay is known as "MOC" (Mint on Card). If you search for this designation on ebay in the GI Joe category you will find GI Joes for sale in their original sealed packages. These GI Joes can also be searched for by alternative designations such as "MOSC" (Mint on Sealed Card), "MOMC" (Mint on Mint Card), "Carded", or "on Card".
The GI Joes from this line that tend to command the high prices on ebay are those from Series 1 to Series 4 or GI Joes sold in stores from 1982-1985. These GI Joes were manufactured on "peach" cards and can be easily identified by their pictures on ebay because they have flat GI Joes logos on the front of the package vs the later 3-d logos known as "grey" cards. These GI Joes also vary by the number of GI Joes characters pictured on the back of each card. In the years between 1982-1985, these numbers varied between 9, 11, 20, 32, 34, & 36. The 36 back cards do not utilize the valuable "peach" cards but instead are "grey". The 9, 11, 20, 32, & 34 back cards regularly command higher prices on ebay. In addition, these sealed toys are sometimes sent in for grading to the Action Figure Authority which assigns the figure a grade and serial number based on its condition and certifies its authenticity. These GI Joes can be found ebay by searching for "AFA". These GI Joes also tend to command higher prices on ebay.
