People that are new to the experience of the beautiful 'Brighton' line, can be easily duped into buying nothing more than a 'look alike' that is probably one 10th the quality of the authentic Brighton items. Sure, maybe they 'resemble' Brighton...but, they are fakes. I have contacted Ebay repeatedly, with no response. I have been a Brighton collector for many many years, and, there were a few pieces that almost had me fooled....reason being...these fraudulent sellers are giving their pieces individual names (as Brighton always has, and will) AND, they list a retail price on the item, that is very much in line with the genuine Brighton pieces.
I feel badly for somebody, that has never experienced authentic Brighton, and then, purchases a fake Brighton, and thinks that real 'Brighton' is nothing more than cheap costume jewelry, or, faux leather handbags, wallets, etc...that are just too overpriced. Those are the individuals that wouldn't even dream of ever setting foot into an authentic Brighton retailer, and browsing through their goods. They will never know the actual quality that they are missing out on.
This entire fake Brighton thing, started out a bit over a year ago...when one seller advertised their jewelry (which was a Brighton knock-off) as 'Diane Brighton'. Apparently they stated that they had an employee, with the name 'Diane Brighton' that picked out their jewelry at the jewelry shows. Somehow, this all got by Ebay (God only knows how,,,they love to cancel auctions)....so, it just really caught on. I even saw a Geneva watch (picture clearly showed that it was a Geneva watch) advertised as 'Diane Brighton'. So now, there's tons of 'Diane Brighton', there's 'Lydia Brighton', another new one that I spotted the other day....and who knows where it will go from there.
I even sent the Brighton company a detailed letter, and offered to help to spot the fraudulent pieces. I have never heard back from them...and that was about 2 months ago. So,,,no help from them. You can advertise Diane Brighton, Lydia Brighton, Bebe Brighton, Joe Blow Brighton...and ebay will allow it. Honest to God, I think that I sent over 5 emails to customer support at ebay, who promised to look at it, but never did. I did so, because, those sellers had mostly good feedback,,,,but, they had a bunch of negatives in their also, from people that have had the authentic item, and knew that they had just paid for nothing more than a cheap piece of costume jewelry.
Brighton may be costume jewelry...but, their quality is without competitors.
