Buying a formal online can either be a very rewarding experience or a total nightmare. Hopefully, your experience wouldn't be terrible with a little help. Ever spotted the perfect dress for that special event on ebay, purchased it just in time only to receive it and see that it is a low quality unstated rag? Then there's the chance it won't fit! Well here a few guidelines to make your shopping days alot easier.
Look for a reputable seller. Perferrably one that has experience in selling formals. If the "perfect dress" is being sold by a seller without any dress experience ask questions.
Knowing the brand and measurements are a MUST! Formals are sized nothing like regular clothing. Each brand has different sizing! NEVER EVER go by size alone! Always ask for and reveiw measurements. Actual measurements are always best however, designer size charts work well. If the seller does not have measurements listed once you know the name brand measurements can be found on any retail website that specializes in formals. Check your measurements agains the garment. Most formals DO NOT have stretch.
Expect Alterations - Most everyone has to have some adjustments made to their formal gown for the perfect fit. IF you have to have alterations find a professional who has experience working with formal gowns.
What to expect. Formals are delicate. There may be some flaws! Missing beads and loose threads are very common for beaded gowns. Simply moving the gown can cause some bead loose occasionally.
Showroom Samples - Super deals! Buying a floor sample can save you hunderds.
Gently Used gowns - Be sure to ask questions about where and long the gown was worn. Find out if there are any stains for self-tanner, deoderant, make-up, etc. Ask about dust or dirt on hemlines.
