I have bought and sold many Fluke Meters on ebay.Although I deal only in a few types of meter ( 87 series meters) This should help with most meters. This is just a few questions to ask especially when buying meters that are advertised as "new". I have been as we say disappointed when my purchase was not quite as advertised. Of couse the first thing to look at is the rating of the seller. If they have a lot of negative feedback and don't take paypal in most cases I would pass on bidding. You should ask if the serial number on the box matches the one on the meter. The serial number on the meter is under the yellow cover on back of the meter. There should be a sticker with the serial number on the box. NOTE - some of the early models may not have a sticker on the box but may have a blue card (statement of calibration practices) with a similiar sticker on it. You should ask if the manual is still shrink wrapped later models all had the manuals shrink wrapped, some of the earlier models did not. I am not sure exactly when Fluke started doing the shrink wrap but will update if I can find out. If you know you can let me know and I will add it. Last ask if there any markings on the meter, ( I purchased a meter that was sold as "new" which had a name and SS# etched on it. Make sure you give sellers enough time to answer as I have people ask questions like an hour before the auction ends and I couldn't answer them that quickly.
Of couse buying used meters is a shot in the dark. Buy from reputable sellers with high feedback ratings who use paypal and will give you a refund or exhange if you are not happy. NOTE- I have purchased used meters with blown fuses and I am pretty sure the sellers did not know about it. You of course can buy those on ebay also.
I hope this helps a few buyers out there so they get what they are paying for and have a few questions to ask.
