At first glance, all FRS walkie-talkies seem alike - but they aren't; some are a lot easier to live with - and a lot more capable - than others. Some have confusing controls - especially when you are using them in the typical environments they are used in, like hunting or in Iraq as a soldier - while some have much more capability than others. In particular, any radio also having the GMRS channels in addition to the FRS ones will be much more capable - especially if you are using it in some place lots of others will use theirs at the same time - as it has many more channels for everyone to converse on without interfering with others.
For instance, Cobra's PR100 (seen on Internet Gun Show) has one nuisance feature, a belt clip that must be removed to change batteries and that's very hard to get off - but who needs a belt clip on a radio they can carry in their shirt pocket as easily as a pack of cigarettes? Just take the clip off the first time - and never put it back on. But it does have all those GMRS channels in addition to the FRS ones - making it a very good choice.
Radios which only operate on internal rechargeable battery packs just aren't as versatile - as you may not be able to use them long. While they may be great for building-trades people who can recharge them every night at home, they just won't give you as much long-term use hunting or camping.
