Denim Guide
We know how it is, you find a pair of jeans that fits perfectly so you end up buying two pair. Eventually you will need to update your wardrobe because the last time you bought jeans, "Friends" was still number one in the television ratings. Times have changed and so have the styles offered in denim.
Here are the silhouettes currently offered in the market with a description of what should best fit your body type.
Wide Leg
- Wide leg jeans and trousers are everywhere, and are very forgiving! They hide large hips and wide thighs. They give a dressed up look to casual Fridays, paired with a feminine blouse and ballet slippers, you have the perfect outfit to go from day to night.
Skinny
- Skinny jeans look best on a slim frame, rectangular boyish body type. These jeans also accentuate the backside, so if you need a little added padding this is the cut for you.
Straight Leg
- Like Diet Coke and lipstick, the straight leg is the staple! This cut of denim looks good on all shapes and sizes, but best for someone with wide hips, as the seam line from the hip to the hem will create a long lean look.
Boot Cut
- Boot cut jeans are ideal for the woman who are 5 foot 4 inches or taller who have long legs. Because this cut widens the hip and accentuates the thigh, it is not recommended for the petite woman because it will make the leg look shorter.
High Waist
- High waist jeans draw attention to the waist and hips, and can hide that little flaw of a thick waist. They can also make you look taller and leggier, however remember to keep your top simple and chic, otherwise you may look like a flash back from the 80s.
Low Rise
- Low rise jeans are perfect for those who have a short waist. This style of denim has been on the market for some time now and things to avoid while wearing low rise, are the muffin top and the peaking panty. To avoid these pitfalls you should buy your low rise denim wisely making sure the waistband is contoured and not too snug.
Petite
- If you have a long torso and shorter legs you should choose petite sizes. The rise and leg of petite styles are cut for the differently and will fit better. Skinny jeans can look great on the slender petite woman, while the rounder petite gal should go with the wide leg jean or trouser.
