The first thing you need to consider when buying a DVD recorder is how much you intend to pay up to in price. Its also something you need to understand that DVD recorders are designed not to copy origianl DVD's, and in most case's Pre Recorded Tapes. Think before you buy as DVD recorders can be expensive, do you want just a DVD recorder or are you more likely to be looking for one with a VHS built in too.

Other things to consider are region specific DVD players and to make sure you buy one that will work in the area you live in.

Next its a good idea to look at types of format the DVD will read and record to, there are options for DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and some even have multi format capabilities. Obviously multi-format will cost more but gives you an added bonus of being able to buy either DVD-R or DVD+R blank discs. The cost of blanks vary greatly depending on where and how many you buy at a time, but you can find good deals through Ebay for these also.

Brands vary greatly in price too and its not always a better deal if you just go for well known brands. Some of the lesser known brands will perform and do just as good a job as the most well known ones.

Tip: if you plan to copy/record anything to DVD  most times it will only play in the originating recorder, but, if you FINALISE ( a process where you close off the DVD disc) the disc this usualy means you can take that disc and play it in other players, and have very few if no problem with the picture quality.

DVD covers a vast amount of information and possibilites, so it would be a long review to cover all aspects of DVD recording based on formats, disc size, types/brands or recorder and lastly COST.

Cost being what is more likely to be your number one concern, ask friends who have DVD recorders how they get along with theirs, and base your purchase on their thoughts too, its worth considering what they have to say.

In general you will find most answers to any questions you might have by just asking friends and searching the internet for answers too.

Safe buying and remember its illegal to make copies of Copyrighted material even if its for no profit, unless you are making a back up for an original you already own.
