There are many different ways to find what your want in a computer. they first thing you want to look at is the speed (you might want to find something the GHz range, not MHz, thus GHz is faster) the higher the number that faster the computer. There are 2 different major brands of CPUs, there is AMD and Intel. I would choose AMD they are much more stable and run much faster, and, in my opinion, cheaper. Intel is a good chip also. the second thing you want to look at is the harddrive. this subject is very basic, the Gigabytes or GB, the more room you have. For example a 40gb hardrive is perfect for a basic internet computer. I would recommend at least an 80GB harddrive for gamers and music and video. You might also want to look at the RAM, or memory. The more RAM you the faster programs and your OS will run. To run windows XP, i would buy a 512Mb stick or RAM. There is also the CD-ROM drive ir DVD-ROM drive. This is very basic stuff, in order to burn your own DVDs, you would need a DVD-RW drive, that covers everything including burning and reading CDs and DVDs. What you just read was about all the basic computing parts, now is time for the system brands like HP, Compaq, Dell, and more. Here is a list telling you about the computers and other such things.
1. Dell- Cheaper Models are the best deal for basic computing and internet, the prices range between $150.00 to $400.00. The Cheaper Models include Dell Dimensions 2400, and 3000.
2. HP- Great for Enjoyment. These systems are CHEAP and have the same/better parts than a Dell, for a fraction of a price.I would use a HP for Photos and video editing, and music. Most newer HPs have firewire great for iPod, and Digital Camcorder.
3. Compaq- Great deal for the price. I would recommend buying one of these unless you like compaq. Compaq is basically a cheaper version of the HP. Compaq is built to last though!
4. Gateway/eMachines- Great for basically anything you want to do. If you want one of these get a Gateway for the extra $50-$100. These machines are owned by the same companies, but Gateway is overall better in everything.
5. Custom- Perfect for the gamer! Much customs built computers have neon lights and fans, and the best parts money can buy. Customs are better then almost any branded computer on the market. A few reasons why, (1.) Clean OS with no extra uneeded programs to slow you down (2.) Buy the same parts in a Custom as would a Dell or HP for 1/3 less.
