The Muscle Car era has really erupted. Buyers are now going thru the internet in search of their dream car. A lot of times the price and funds don't seem to work out so finding one that fits the pocket book can be a job. I'll try to help you on a important issue when buying cars of the internet. And many of you are new to this.

Muscle cars projects under $5,000 seem to sell well. So you find one and in such a rush to get one at a good price you bid away and never ask questions.

I restore Mopars for a living and I see many owners dream fade away as they find out they are going to spend a whole lot more than they thought. Muscle cars are not cheap to restore, whether you do it yourself or have a shop do it, there is going to be hundreds of hours invested.

Biggest thing on these Uni-Body cars is frame rot. As a example on Mopar's if you have frame rail rot, you have a expensive problem. Not only are you doing the rail's but now you are looking at a lot of sheet metal work. So sometimes a $4,000 bargin becomes a $10k to $20k project just to get the body right and painted.

My advice..ask questions before you bid. Ask about the frame & body. Try to find out as much information as you can. Many cars get pushed off on others and they are made of bondo. Get someone to inspect it for you. If a seller won't let you have it inspected or give you a positive answer on the frame & body condition, then pass on it, they have something to hide. Many classic Muscle cars get bought and set in the yard to finish rotting away once it is established what it takes to fix it. The old story..."You get what you pay for".  Get something with a solid frame and decent body and you will soon be on the road. You are better off today to look in the $7k to $12k price range on a project car. Under $5k unless they are in a bind to sell it, you 85% of the time are going to have some kind of issues.

Ask all you can and make sure to get a solid foundation to work with, be patient, don't jump at the first thing you see because it is "Cheap". eBay runs a lot of solid cars everyday, just weed them out.

Now many look at Classic Muscle Cars as a great investment. And they are. Some want them as a re-sell for Profit. They watch the TV auctions and have big $$$ in their eye's. So before you get too carried away, keep this in mind those TV Mopars you see have $70k to $200k invested in them. Many think they can find a car at $5k and are going to do nothing but re-sell it for 5 times what they paid. It does not work that way. So be ready to pass out when you get ready to "Buy to Re-Sell". It's not cheap making a new Car again.
