Tired of your old 2.0 megapixel camera? Is it time to upgrade? Here's a brief but important checklist to help you start looking for a new digital camera.
- Megapixels: Although more megapixels might be nice, it is not totally necessary. Take a look at your situation and why you are buying a new camera. In most cases, a 3.0 will do just fine. In fact, if you are just using it for web content, a 2.0 would even do the trick. Don't go out and shell out your hard earned money on a fancy super high end camera that you won't be able to take advantage of.
- Brand Name: Make sure you stick with the main manufacturers when it comes to digital cameras. Canon, Fuji, Kodak, Sony (just to name a few) are sure bets for quality. Stay away from the cheap "no name" stuff even if it has all he bells and whistles that you're after. Also, stick with models that have a good reputation (ie: Canon Powershot or the Nikon "D" series. You might have to pay a little more but it will be worth it in the long run.
- Camera Presets: Most cameras that are aimed at the everyday consumer can be used right away. Many come with presets that will get the best out of your equipment simply by selecting the proper mode (ie: daytime, closeup view, portrait mode, etc). Try to get a camera that has a wide selection of these features. If you think that you might want to get more into photography, then you should probably buy a camera that will allow you to manually adjust your settings as well.
- Test It: Go to your local electronics store and see how the camera fits in your hands. How much does it weigh? Is it too small or big for you? Is it comfortable for your shape of hands? You should be thinking of these types of things as just doing research on the web is not enough. Once you find one that you like (combined with your research) you can always come home and do a search on Ebay for it.
