The Minolta X-700 MPS is one of the best 35mm SLR cameras ever made. The X-700 is very reliable, like any electronic or mechanical device, they can have problems.

The good news is that eBay is a great place to buy this amazing camera as long as you buy from a seller who has fully tested the camera and offers a warranty or guarantee.

I sell a lot of Minolta items on eBay including the X-700 camera. And I have found that 90 % of the time I need to clean, lube and install new body and mirror seals before I list them with a guarantee on eBay. A used camera will need refreshing, but with maintenance it is as good as new. This maintenance and cleaning usually starts at $75.00 and up at a camera shop.

The bad new is a non-working camera of any make and model will almost always cost more to have repaired than it is worth. Base rates for common repairs on almost all types of 35mm SLR cameras start at $100.00 and go up from there. Having $200.00 or more in repairs to fix a non-working camera is not uncommon. So it pays to buy a camera that is guaranteed to work perfectly.

As long as you find an X-700 that has had recent maintenance and is guaranteed to work properly you will be buying a great camera. Avoid "as is" sales or untested sales as these cameras can need repairs that cost more than they are worth. If a seller is not knowledgeable about cameras it is best to find another seller who is knowledgeable about cameras.
