If you are new to collecting mining lamps or carbide lamps in general, sooner or later you will come accross the Butterfly lamp made by Safesport manufacturing. After searching multiple Justrites and Autolites you see a Butterfly and think you are buying a rare or unique lamp. Stop right there. Butterflys were manufactured in the late 1970's and throughout the 1980's in Hong Kong, targeted to campers, hunters, and cavers. They were a direct copy of the Guy Dropper design, with the exception that they performed nothing like the old Droppers did. DO NOT purchase or bid on these lamps. They fall apart with very little use. They were cheaply made in Asia and imported here. They have absolutley no collectors value what so ever, even if they are unfired and with the origional box. Save a little money and buy a quality american made lamp. See picture below of Butterfly and a box.
