Burmese Pythons are a popular pet to buy. Whenever you are buying a pet you should research it thoroughly to decide if have the resources to keep it. Snake are great low maintain pets. They do not eat often, do not need to be petted daily, and don't keep the neighbors up with their barking.
Burmese Pythons are very attractive snakes that comes in a range of color forms. The only big problem is that grow very quickly. In the first year they will be several feet long. In three or four years they are enormous. They have the potential to weigh hundreds of pounds. Yes, you read that right. They are normally docile with humans because they do not recognize them as food. It is possible that they will attack some children but this is not likely. There have been a few cases of attacks or deaths but they truth is more people die from dogs. It is still not a good idea have an huge snake with small children around. If you want a large snake, try a Columbia Boa constrictor. They only get about six foot or so. This is small enough to deal with.
The questions is do you have a room to convert into a living space for this pet. If they escape it might make the news. What do you do if the snake gets too big for you to deal with? There is no market for huge snakes. People prefer to buy a small one and grow themselves. If you take it to an animal shelter, it will probably be destroyed. A zoo can only have some many large snakes in their collection. Why should you buy a pet that will have to be destroyed?
You are welcome to disagree with me. Do some research on the internet to see if I am wrong. If you love snakes and have the budget to build a special room for it and buy the frozen rats and chickens it will need, go for it. The truth is over 99% of the people that buy one of these creatures are not prepared for the reality of a reptile that is bigger than an adult human.
