Be careful when purchashing DVD ROMS, and CD ROMS in Bulk on ebay. For example "50x DVD ROM SPINDLE" etc. A lot of these auctions are legit, however I have encountered some that use specially made discs from materials which look the same, but act nothing like it. You will know when you find yourself watching a home movie you've burned onto it, and suddenly it freezes, and cannot be read by the DVD Player.
So, how do I know what discs are fake and real?
The problem is, you don't know until you get the discs in your hands. Also, most people won't bother to look, and will find a problem around 2 weeks later, which would then be past most peoples return policy.
You can find out if a disc is made from a poor material by simply placing it in a DVD player, without putting anyhing on it, and allow the DVD player to try and read it. Once you can eject it again, do so, and look just around the middle of the disc. Do you see a thin line which appears under the first layer of the disc? This is because the laser is reading from the centre at start, and working its way round, but the laser has burned away the poor material.
Test your DVD ROMs in a DVD player, and CD ROMS in a computer disc drive as soon as they are delivered to you. If damage occurs, get a refund straight away.
