Building the Ultimate Personal Computer
Building your own computer takes a lot of work, but can save you a lot of money versus buying a name brand PC. Lets get started...
First off you need to find a good case for your computer. You cant be having your friends come over and say your case looks ugly. Try one of these
MicroATX PC Case
Mid-tower with power supply
Mid-tower, no power supply
I recommend one with a 400 watt or more power supply so you can equip it with some of the more intense equipment out there.
After getting the case you must get yourself the proper motherboard. I recommend getting one of the two listed below.
AMD supported Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 Motherboard
Now if the motherboard comes with the processor as well ignore the following section. eBay is great for finding any chip of any speed you need. Below are a few you can find
Athlon 64
Athlon 64 FX
Athlon XP
Pentium 4
Pentium 4 HT
Pentium 4 HT Extreme Edition
At this point you now have a solid base for your computer. You will need to find a few of the last accessories to get before we get started on you installing your operating system. Those are
CD Burneror a CD/DVD Combo Drive
If you feel like you've got some extra money to blow make it a DVD Burner
Get yourself 512 megs of ram or 1 gig
In addition you will need a Hard Drive. I recommend either a 160gb or 300gb drive.
After getting all of this equipment you are almost ready. The last two components are key. The first being the difference between being able to play the latest video games and not. The video card. Think of getting a video card by either NVIDIA or ATI.
The final step is getting an operating system. Look to either get a copy of
Windows XP or Linux
